The congress was officially launched by Prof. Štourač (Brno) and Prof. Černý (Prague), who reviewed the growth of the society during its 30 years of existence, highlighted the cooperation with medical faculties and continued with the ceremony of presenting awards and honorary memberships. The Göttinger Prize was awarded to commemorate the first ether anaesthesia in the Czech Republic, which took place in Brno. During the congress, participants could listen to plenty of exciting topics in six lecture halls and practice various skills thanks to engaging workshops.
During the first day of the congress, several lectures were given on acute, intensive and pre-hospital care. Participants could choose, for example, between a block focused on GIT bleeding, analgosedation at the dentist, polytrauma, critically ill child, or the traditional block of the section of young anaesthesiologists and intensivists called Rewiev my case, and the list of lectures could go on and on. Thursday was busy, and it all ended with a social gathering.
Friday offered a vibrant programme. At the very beginning, the audience could participate in sessions dealing with the challenging issue of bariatric procedures or major procedures involving anaesthesia. The following blocks were also of high informational value, of which we can mention cranio trauma, where speakers gradually followed up with their views on this issue from pre-hospital care through operating rooms to long-term rehabilitation. Dr. Černý (Prague) and Dr. Zvoníček (Prague) came up with an unusual but no less important topic of forensic anaesthesiology. Using examples of real cases, they demonstrated the most frequent shortcomings in practice and demonstrated the work of a forensic expert. The programme continued after lunch, with an enriching poster session and other lecture blocks such as algesiology, or paediatric anaesthesia.
On the last day of the congress, we brought many interesting lectures in the Hot Topics format covering emergency medicine and pre-hospital care, pain management, intensive care, and anaesthesia. Lectures presented up-to-date data and stirred up many constructive discussions.
The closing ceremony of the congress began with a minute of silence for the deceased associate prof. Jarmila Drábková CSc. Afterwards, the winners of the poster section were announced. Thanks and recognition were given to all the organizers, and we were all invited to next year's national congress.
