Newborn resuscitation - 2021

Newborn resuscitation is a complication occurring approximately in 1% of deliveries. Proper initial assessment and stabilization of the newborn play a crucial role in following postnatal transition and in further clinical outcome. For this reason, we present to you the following algorithm to practice the entire process, including necessary equipment check, transition and newborn resuscitation in accordance with the European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021: New-born resuscitation and support of transition of infants at birth.

The newborn resuscitation algorithm provides you with the opportunity to walk through a case involving a neonate who requires a high level of support after birth. Fortunately, such cases are rare, but that is precisely why we need to be prepared for these situations and familiarize ourselves with the essential aspects of newborn care and the differences from care for an older child. All these aspects are well emphasized in this case study and can help you, in addition to practical training, in solidifying essential skills and their sequence in newborn resuscitation after birth.
