Severe respiratory infection in a child

Late at night a young 10-year-old patient (25 kg) is admitted to the ER (hospital with complex cardiovascular centre), accompanied by his parents. The patient presented with a dry irritating cough, he is subfebrile and exhausted from the cough. The patient is complaining of headache and loss of appetite. He has been in this condition for two days.
You’ve decided to measure the CRP level.

It’s a viral infection, I suspect an incipient pneumonia. I order a chest X-ray to be sure.
It’s a bacterial infection. I refer the patient to his GP for a blood test.
It’s the flu. I don’t examine the patient any further and I recommend bed rest.
I am angry, that someone is waking me up at night because of a flu. I send the child home and tell him not to come back.
