Childbirth in the field
You are called to a childbirth as the EMS. You´ve just arrived. The young pregnant woman says that the amniotic fluid has drained away and her contractions are periodic- after about 1 minute. What will you do first?
At first I´ll find out medical history meanwhile I´ll measure blood pressure, pulse by pulse oximeter, monitor the saturation of haemoglobin, examine the cervix score and secure one peripheral venous access(for example into the cubital vein).
During contractions the woman in labour feels severe pain. Because of this fact I´ll give her a strong analgetics (such as morphine iv).
I´ll do nothing- there is no indication that the woman in labour needs my help.
I´ll find out the medical history and transport her immediately to the maternity hospital immediately.
